ROCKS AND TETHERS

Celestial bodies of immeasurable weight are held by gravitational force.
Metal and mineral form under pressure.
Rocks are heavy, but grind to pigment.
The threads are light but strengthen at nodes.

Transformed into line,
through the body by gesture.
Gestures of feeling,
Unravelling tangled webs of our creation.

Material and physical, emotional and conceptual threads and weights interweave lines and boundaries.

This exhibition presents 10 local and international artists whose work broadly intersects this proposition. Painting, sculpture, the body, language, art and cultural history, traverse the micro and macrocosmic.

Rocks and tethers are a metaphor for being, an angle of approach to being in the world. The context and duality of meaning at this intersection hold complexities and contradictions, sometimes intangible other times concrete.

Being in connection, being in tension, always in relation, to each other and to the objects and materials around us: to the forces, fields and threads, even those we only barely grasp, conceive or even recognise.

Stones not to throw but to hold, as all are on the edge of becoming.
